Original gritty love songs and dark ballads from deep suburban landscapes and the iconic regional beyond.
Tall Dan delivers deep notes and stunning country melodies with a rock edge, but it’s the emotional storytelling that connects to audiences, young and old.
Performing original music, Tall Dan and the True Stories promise a rich and satisfying session of folk tales in a modern Australian context.
I grew up in Greensborough, Melbourne, Victoria. My parents were very musical people and my Pa on my mum’s side played gigs every weekend in a Dutch band called The Sailors, so there were always plenty of instruments lying around the place.
My dad, Ray Macminn, is an artist, and like many artists he loves music. Playing his guitar into the night was his usual thing. I would often fall asleep to him plucking the strings.
When I was a kid, I collected everything I could think of- and still do by the way! One day I found a violin in a junk shop and ended up getting lessons for a few years. That was until I was about 14 years old and I discovered Grunge music. I then decided to try guitar, singing and writing songs, which I never gave up.
I have two kids who are following in my footsteps, writing and playing. It’s a great way to express yourself, and best of all it feels amazing.
Slowly (but surely), I have found my people in music, and they found me too. My band, Tall Dan and the True Stories, has come to life. I've been very lucky to work with people who believe in the music, its honesty and stories of good and bad times in our lives. It takes a special bunch of people to grow a band, and when you see the finished product, it's really something to behold.
So come and check us out for yourself, and don’t forget to keep on rolling!
